Cottage 1 or Swede’s Place is a perfect getaway for the rustic minded vacationer that still demands fully furnished amenities. A stocked kitchen with appliances, utensils, dishes, all cookware. Just show up and move in for a vacation retreat. The interesting Hollywood tale behind Cottage 1 is that its location at the end of the Castle Stone Inn resort made it perfect to hide from media and autograph seekers in the 40’s to 70’s. Actors Paul Walker, James Arness, Fess Parker, and Judy Garland during Nor Cal visits to the resorts of the area stayed with the resort in Cottage 1. The Castella Stone Cottages grew in reputation as a hideout for the stars and Bay Area elite during the Prohibition Era forward. Cottage 1 with its proximity to the woods was a perfect cottage for entertaining libations and some light party nights returning from the Big Band Dances held at the Cragview Resort and up Castella Loop at Engle Inn, the major hotel you still see on the corner.
